A black crow. He first showed up in a meditation.
When I meditate, I like to start by imagining myself walking up a mountain trail…
the trial leads places, usually to a cave, tucked neatly into the side of the hill.
I go into the cave, and there is a warm, glowing fire, and a place to sit.
And then I sit.
Sometimes other people come into the cave and join me.
One person is a beautiful woman with long dark hair. I’ll you more about her another time.
The other person is a big, broad Native American Indian with a crow on his shoulder.
Now sometimes that crow finds me when I’m walking up the trail. He flies along with me,
or lands on my shoulder.
But the crow also shows up in real life…
Sometimes a huge crow will land on my fence here at the house.
I went to the airport on a business trip and stood outside a gift shop in the Phoenix Airport.
Painted across the wall were the words INDIGENOUS PEOPLE.
And beneath the words was an entire wall of art.
The first painting was of a crow.
The next painting was of a crow.
The one after that… you guessed it a CROW!
So for real, every painting on the wall was of ONE CROW.
Sounds crazy but its true.
In the first episode you’ll hear me interview my good friend and spiritual mentor, Heather Strang, and we talk a bit about signs. You’ll hear Heather talk about a blue bird that follows her.
Anyway I went to dinner that night with my husband, and we exited the sushi restaurant, there in the window display of the store next door… was… you guessed it, a crow.
Here’s what I found on the meaning of a crow on spiritanimal.info.
Throughout history, the crow has been associated with both positive and negative symbolic meanings.
Because of its affinity with life mysteries and magic, the crow is seen in many shamanic traditions as the spirit animal of choice for those who use magic and have the power to manipulate the law of our physical universe. The crow used to be the animal of choice of shamans, those who do witchcraft and shape-shifting.
- Life magic; mystery of creation
- Destiny, personal transformation, alchemy
- Higher perspective
- Being fearless, audacious
- Flexibility, adaptability
- Trickster, manipulative, mischevious
Had the store been open I think I would have had to buy the crow. And clearly I need to work on my magical abilities, but for now, I’m just enjoying getting to know the crow.
Do you have a special sign you see everywhere you go? Tell me in the comments below! I’d love to know.
