The Charlottesville Uprising

You might think this is 1920 or 1950, and yet
here we are in 2017, with young men
in polos, and tapered khaki, pants carrying tikki torches from the hardware store,
as if they are playing dress up.

But it’s all too real.

The Nazi Salutes.
The chants of Blood and Soil.
The young black man encircled by White Supremacists, beaten with metal poles in broad daylight.

This is the dark underbelly of America in the harsh, painful reality of broad daylight.

These are people who ancestors immigrated to the U.S. who conveniently choose to ignore that fact.
Forgotten their ancestors ARRIVED on this land, as others do today.
Forgotten this land was built by the hard work (and enslavement) of they very people they fight against.
People who decided they are entitled, because it benefits them.

While this is hard to look at, this is us.

And we need to do better.
We need to unite.
